Prescribed burn near Rampart Reservoir Thursday

Conditions have become favorable for conducting broadcast burns across much of Colorado. On Thursday, the U.S. Forest Service is planning a 300-400 acre burn within the Pike-San Isabel National Forest near Rampart Reservoir. Ignitions are anticipated to start at approximately 10 am MDT.

Smoke will likely be visible today in Woodland Park and along Highway 24 in Green Mountain Falls and Cascade.  Additionally, smoke might be visible east of the burn on the Interstate 25 corridor between Monument and Colorado Springs.

Smoke will likely carry to the northeast of the burn and remain aloft through this afternoon. However, it's not out of the question that some smoke could occasionally drift downward to the surface near Monument, Woodmoor, and Gleneagle. Moderate to heavy smoke will be more likely overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning in the Rampart Reservoir area. It's also possible some smoke could drain down to the east into the US Air Force Academy for Friday morning.

Please visit the Pike-San Isabel National Forest webpage for more information on the various prescribed fire projects they will be conducting.  Also visit the wood smoke and your health webpage and the CDPHE prescribed fire map for additional information that can help you protect your health from wood smoke.
