Air quality advisories for smoke will expire on Friday, intermittent smoke will linger

Over the last couple of days the overall impacts from smoke have decreased. Areas directly near and below fires in Colorado have seen smoke settling in low lying terrain overnight and in the early mornings. However smoke has dissipated during the midday and afternoon periods. Because of these improvements, the Air Quality Health Advisories for Wildfire Smoke will be allowed to expire at 9 am on Friday.

With this said, we acknowledge that the fires continue to burn, and smoke is likely to be found in some areas at some times. Please also keep in mind that folks who have been breathing smoke for days may have lingering health impacts due to this exposure. While the improvements in air quality and the expiry of Advisories is positive and welcome news, we urge everyone to remain cautious with heavy physical exertion, and continue to be aware of changing conditions.

We will keep a close watch on weather conditions and fire activity, and will re-issue advisories if we see increases in smoke that support those alerts. Stay tuned for updated information here, and find some time to enjoy the current improvements in air quality.
