Prescribed burns continue across the state with smoke impacts possible

Autumn is a good time of year for prescribed burn projects to be accomplished across Colorado due to favorable weather and fuel conditions.  Upcoming burn projects across the state can always be viewed on the CDPHE prescribed fire map.  One large landscape burn that was conducted this past weekend was the Magic Feather burn in the Red Feather Lakes area of Larimer County. Information on this project and others can be found on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest website and Facebook page.

Heavy smoke was recorded by air quality monitoring for several hours Monday morning, especially in areas just to the south and southeast of Red Feather Lakes. This could again be the case Tuesday morning depending on how much smoldering is taking place. If you reside in this area, please close your windows before heading off to sleep Monday night. Limiting time outside until approximately 10am Tuesday morning, if possible, is recommended. If you do need to spend time outdoors while smoke is present, please take actions to protect your health by visiting CDPHE's Wood smoke and your health webpage.
